Milk Alternatives
Banana Milk
1 Banana
3/4 c Water
Blend until smooth.
Adjust water for desired thickness.
Use immediately as banana quickly changes flavor once blended.
Rice Milk
3 c Cooked rice
4 c Water
1/3 c Honey or use other sweetener to taste
¼ tsp Salt
Blend on high speed until very smooth. Add an additional 3 cups of water and mix well. You can filter through cheese
Cloth or milk bag if desired. Pour into container and refrigerate till chilled.
Oat Milk
1 c Quick oats
Cover with water and soak for 30 minutes
Add to blender with
4 c Water
2 tsp Vanilla (optional)
Stevia to taste (optional)
Blend until smooth. Adjust water for desired thickness. Grainy plain, but excellent in smoothies, on cereal, and recipes calling for milk.
Refrigerate for up to one week.
Almond Milk
1 c Almonds soaked overnight (you can soak a bunch and freeze them in serving sized bags)
5 c Water
4 Pitted dates (soaked with almonds)
1/2 -1 tsp Vanilla (optional)
Place 2 cups of water and all other ingredients in blender. Blend on high speed until very smooth. Add an additional 3 cups of water and mix well. You can filter through cheese cloth or milk bag if desired. Pour into container and refrigerate till chilled.
Have an open mind! These are not dairy milks or anything like the boxed almond/rice/soy milks. Have fun experimenting!
Smoothies
Strawberry Banana Smoothie
1 c Vanilla oat milk (or other milk substitute or water)
1 c Strawberries
1 Banana
Stevia to taste (optional)
Blend until smooth
Tropical Smoothie
1 c Frozen pineapple
1 c Frozen mango
1 Frozen banana
1 ½-2 c Fresh spinach
1-2 c Nut, coconut or soy milk
½ tsp Vanilla or coconut extract
Blend on high speed until smooth
Green Smoothie
1 c Spinach, frozen (or kale, beet greens, chard, etc)
2 c Vanilla oat milk (or other milk substitute or water)
1 c Strawberries
1 Banana
1 Orange
1 T Chia seeds
Stevia to taste
Blend until smooth
Start with fewer greens and work your way up. Experiment. Have fun! This is a life choice and you will eventually grow to love it!
